Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of mathematical reasoning skills. One significant strategy to foster the advancement of mathematical reasoning skills is the implementation of the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model. The primary objectives of this research are to ascertain the heightened improvement in mathematical reasoning skills among students exposed to the CPS learning model compared to those subjected to conventional teaching methods. Additionally, the study aims to evaluate students' attitudes towards mathematics instruction utilizing the CPS learning model.

A quasi-experimental method was employed for this research, conducted at SMK Budi Mandiri Tanjungsari. The subjects included Class XI TKJ B as the experimental group using the CPS model and Class XI TKJ C as the control group using conventional models. The research instruments encompassed a mathematical reasoning skills test and a student attitude questionnaire.

Based on the analysis of the data's gain index using the Mann Whitney U test at a 5% significance level, the obtained results showed a calculated Z-value of 6.20, surpassing the critical Z-value of 1.96. Since the calculated Z-value falls outside the interval limits -Z-table ≤ Z-calculated ≤ Z-table, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected, indicating a significant difference in the improvement of mathematical reasoning skills between students exposed to the CPS model and those instructed conventionally. In terms of average gain index, the experimental group outperformed the control group with 0.64 > 0.37, suggesting that the improvement in mathematical reasoning skills for students using the CPS model is superior to those receiving conventional teaching models. Based on the student attitude questionnaire data, it can be concluded that students have a positive attitude towards learning with the application of the CPS model.
