It seeks to identify and analyze the various types of illocutionary acts and which type that has the greatest perlocutionary effect used by the teacher. To accomplish this, the study applies Austin’s (1962) theory, which divides speech acts into three types: locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary, as well as Searle’s (1974) theory, which divides illocutionary acts into five categories: assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. This study employs descriptive qualitative method, analyzing data obtained by observations, documentation, recording, and its scripts. The findings reveal a total of 174 illocutionary acts and are identified as four types of illocutionary acts produced by the English teacher at BBL Sumedang, which are directives, expressives, representatives, and commissives. The most dominant illocutionary acts produced by the teacher is directives with 87 utterances or 50%, while the commissives are the lowest with 8 utterance or 4.6%. Moreover, there are three types of illocutionary acts that contain perlocutionary effects used by the English teacher at BBL Sumedang, which are directives, representatives, and commissives. Commanding act is the most dominant type of illocutionary act that contain perlocutionary effect, but questioning act has the greatest perlocutionary effect because asking lots of questions will make students active in the long term.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1628 THE USE OF TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE STORYTELLING METHOD IN TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY TO YOUNG LEARNERS 2025-01-12T07:50:51+08:00 Yasin Firmansyah yasinsmanda@gmail.com
The research was motivated by students who found obstacles in the form of difficulties in acquiring English vocabulary. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, this research examines the id, ego, and superego, as well as the techniques of condensation, displacement, and symbolization in the poem using Freud's theory. The results show that Lady Lazarus is dominated by the death drive (id), balances it with reality (ego), and rebels against social norms (superego). Additionally, the analysis of condensation, displacement, and symbolization in Lady Lazarus reveals that metaphors are used to convey complex psychological conflicts, particularly the struggle between life and death, objectification, and the desire for renewal and self-destruction, in line with Freud’s theory. These techniques uncover complex inner conflicts and represent the loss of humanity in the struggle between life and death.

2024-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1522 UTILIZING MUSIC AS A TOOL FOR SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION 2025-01-03T16:46:41+08:00 Icha Trizzeta Indriana trizzetaindriana@gmail.com Nurhasanah Nurhasanah 1nurhasanah.winur@gmail.com
Psycholinguistics or psychology of language is the study of the relationship between linguistic factors and psychological aspects. Using qualitative methods and the ecocritical theoretical framework, this research interprets the symbolism of the Siberian Elm tree as a representation of nature's resistance to human exploitation. The tree becomes a powerful metaphor to illustrate the true value of nature, which challenges anthropogenic attitudes and prioritises human comfort. This research shows that Paschen's poetic technique effectively highlights the adverse effects of environmental degradation while promoting ecological awareness. The results of this study enrich the field of ecocriticism by showing how literary works can encourage sustainable practices and spark deep reflection on the interconnectedness between humans and nature.
2025-02-17T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2025 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1658 RESISTANCE AND CRITIC AGAINST BOURGEOISIE IN WIDJI THUKUL’S POEM “BUNGA DAN TEMBOK” 2025-02-04T11:27:50+08:00 Yogi Wijaya Lesmana yogzwijaya21@gmail.com Zahraniarni zahraniarni30@gmail.com Thesa Izfadlillah thesaiz@unsap.ac.id
Understanding Indonesian poetry from the New Order Period offers important insights on the social, economic and political situation of that period. "Bunga dan Tembok," one of Widji Thukul's well known poems, provides a critical lens of the socioeconomic difficulties that the working class experienced. Although Widji Thukul's poetry has been the subject of multiple studies, it appears that there has not yet a specific examination of his works using a Marxist approach. This study looks at "Bunga dan Tembok" from a Marxist angle in an attempt to close this gap. Using Marxist concepts, the main goal of this study is to reveal the socioeconomic situation interpretations in "Bunga dan Tembok" by Widji Thukul. This study uses Marxist concepts of alienation and the class system shown in the poem to analyze how the poet responded to the reality of the New Order era. The study used a qualitative methodology, with an emphasis on a detailed textual examination. Marx’s concepts acted as theoretical foundations to direct how the poem's content was interpreted. This result highlighted the social inequality between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie during Indonesia's New Order regime. It illustrated how the working class experienced alienation from their land, labor, and humanity due to exploitation and repression by the ruling elite. Despite these challenges, the poem conveyed a sense of class consciousness and the potential for resistance among the marginalized people, suggesting that they could reclaim their humanity and challenge the oppressive system. The symbol of “Bunga” represented this proletariat resistance, emphasizing their ability to rise against the forces that alienated them.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1688 A POSTCOLONIAL ANALYSIS OF STELLA DADZIE’S A KICK IN THE BELLY 2025-01-31T15:05:01+08:00 Trisna Silvi Daiyatun Nazah daiyatunnazah07@gmail.com cindy cahyani cahyanicindy127@gmail.com Mahrunnisa Nur Utari mahrunnisanurutariii@gmail.com Thesa Izfadliillah thesaiz@unsap.ac.id
This research explores the various forms of violence and oppression endured by enslaved Black women in the Caribbean and the Americas as depicted in Stella Dadzie's A Kick in the Belly. Using a postcolonial feminist approach, this study identifies five forms of violence - physical, psychological, sexual, systemic, and cultural, that were deliberately employed to uphold colonial domination over Black women. These forms of violence were not only tools of control but also mechanisms to sustain both racial and gender hierarchies within the colonial system. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, this research relies on documentation as its primary instrument for analyzing the historical and literary narratives presented in Dadzie’s work. The study highlights the collective trauma experienced by enslaved Black women and illustrates how violence was systematically used to reinforce their subjugation. Furthermore, this research underscores the resilience and resistance of these women against oppressive structures, shedding light on their agency despite immense adversity. The findings of this research contribute to a broader understanding of the historical roots of racial and gender-based violence. Moreover, it establishes a connection between historical oppression and contemporary social movements advocating for racial justice and women’s rights, reinforcing the continued relevance of addressing systemic inequalities in today’s society.
2024-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1655 HISTORY OF COLONIALISM IN AMERICA IN MAYA ANGELOU'S POEM "ON THE PULSE OF MORNING" 2025-02-04T11:53:32+08:00 Fanny Anggraeny fanforgo@gmail.com
This study uses a postcolonialism approach, where concepts such as colonialism, postcolonialism, and hybridity are used to identify the problems contained in the poem On the Pulse of Morning by Maya Angelou. The purpose of this study is to understand the background of the creation of the poem On the Pulse of Morning and compare it with social events at that time. The main questions asked in this study are: 1) What social events occurred at that time that were the background to the creation of On the Pulse of Morning, 2) What social impacts emerged after the event, which prompted Maya Angelou to write the poem. This study used descriptive qualitative research with data collection technique researchers used observational method and literature study though literature and historical books, journal, and weblogs. The results of the study show that America has undergone many changes since it was free from European colonialism. Colonialism brought bad habits to the American people. The increasingly open views of the American people made them want changes for the better. This desire was voiced through one of Maya Angelou's literary works of poetry entitled On the Pulse of Morning. The conclusion of this study shows that this poem voices unity and togetherness as well as changes in American citizens against discrimination and injustice felt by black citizens in America. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for further research on postcolonialism with deeper analysis techniques and clearer explanations.

2024-12-30T00:00:00+08:00 Copyright (c) 2024 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature
