The study used semiotic analysis combined with a qualitative descriptive method to determine the symbolic meanings related to different clothing elements. Experts and pertinent stakeholders were contacted for observations, interviews, and documentation in order to gather data. The results show that every component of the wedding clothes, such as the Siger binokasri and the Binokasih crown, represents certain cultural values including compassion, leadership, and harmony. The study comes to the conclusion that traditional wedding clothing represents Sumedang’s cultural history and is more than simply a trend. Preserving and maintaining these clothes is crucial to raising community awareness and respect for traditional knowledge.

Keywords: Semiotics, Traditional wedding clothes, Sumedang, Preserving

Nurhasanah Nurhasanah, Annisa Septiyani Copyright (c) 2025 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1915 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0800 THE READER INTERPRETATION OF DEATH'S CONCEPT 'BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP FOR DEATH' POEM BY DICKINSON https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1647
This study examines how readers in the modern era see death in Emily Dickinson's poem Because I Could Not Stop for Death. The study collected input from readers with varying backgrounds using reader response methods and investigated how various points of view affect how the symbolism of death is understood. The findings emphasize the significance of emotional and cultural circumstances in meaning construction by demonstrating how readers' opinions are strongly impacted by their own experiences. This study expands our understanding of the dynamic interaction between literary texts and readers.
Titis Salsa Firdausiah, Neng Ita Izmi Habibah, Wulan Agustin, Thesa Izfadillah Copyright (c) 2025 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1647 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0800 METAPHOR IN COLDPLAY-FIX YOU LYRICS: COGNITIVE SEMANTICS ANALYSIS https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1830
This research analyzes the metaphorical meanings in the lyrics of Coldplay's song "Fix You" using a cognitive semantics approach, specifically the theories of Lakoff and Johnson (2003) for conceptual metaphors and Croft and Cruse (2004) for image schemas. The study aims to uncover the hidden meanings within the lyrics and understand how the songwriter, Chris Martin, conveys messages through figurative language. The methodology involves listening to the song lyrics, noting down relevant phrases, and then performing a descriptive analysis. The findings reveal two types of conceptual metaphors: orientational and ontological. Out of nine analyzed song lyrics, seven were identified as ontological metaphors and two as orientational metaphors. Correspondingly, the image schema analysis identified two space image schemes, one identity image scheme, and six existence image schemes. The research concludes that the lyrics of "Fix You" metaphorically depict someone navigating difficult times and seeking reunion after loss, using physical and abstract concepts to allow for varied interpretations by listeners.
Shafira Anastasya Dewi Copyright (c) 2025 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1830 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0800 LEXICAL TRANSFORMATION OF BLENDER PART TERMS TRANSLATION IN THE USER MANUAL https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1898
This study aims to identify and describe lexical transformations in the translation of blender part terms from English to Indonesian in user manuals. Using a descriptive qualitative method with a product-based translation model, the data were drawn from 25 technical terms found in two bilingual Philips blender manuals (models HR2010 and HR2223). The data collection technique used was observation and note-taking, where terms were examined and recorded systematically. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show five types of lexical transformation applied in the translation process: transposition, substitution, zero transformation, transposition + omission, and transposition + substitution. These transformations were used to adapt lexical forms and structures from the source language to the target language in ways that preserve meaning and enhance naturalness. Transposition helped adjust word order to fit Indonesian norms, while substitution provided more appropriate equivalents. Zero transformation applied when source terms had already been borrowed into Indonesian. The combinations of transformations aimed to ensure clarity, accuracy, and readability. This study implies that technical translation requires not only linguistic accuracy but also sensitivity to target language conventions. The findings contribute to translation practice by highlighting lexical transformations for translating technical terms effectively.
Muhamad Saiful Mukminin, Ahmad Abdul Muhhit Copyright (c) 2025 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1898 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0800 TRANSFORMATION OF GIRL'S IDENTITY IN THE NOVEL: A LITERARY PSYCHOLOGICAL APPROACH https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1874
This research examines the process of girls' identity transformation through the character of Alice in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland using a literary psychology approach. Alice is described as a girl who experiences various internal and external conflicts during her adventures in the fantasy world of Wonderland. This research uses qualitative content analysis method. The literary psychology approach uses Erik Erikson's psychosocial theory, especially in the stages of industry vs. inferiority and identity vs. role confusion. The changes that Alice experiences emotionally, cognitively and socially are analyzed as a representation of the psychological journey of girls in forming self-identity in the midst of uncertain world. The world of Wonderland is interpreted as a symbol of the subconscious that presents various challenges to Alice's self-stability. The results show that Alice's adventures reflect the self-discovery of a growing girl, learning to know herself and building courage and independence in the midst of the absurdity of reality. This research shows that children's literature can be a reflective medium for the complexity of children's psychological development, especially in the formation of self-identity.
Aji Septiaji, Dede Salim Nahdi, Eva Fitriani Syarifah, Sheikha Majid Copyright (c) 2025 ReALL - Research on Applied Linguistics and Literature https://ejournal.lppmunsap.org/index.php/reall/article/view/1874 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 00:00:00 +0800
