Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability to solve mathematical problems, especially on the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles. This is due to the use of inappropriate learning approaches, and the lack of use of learning media so that students do not pay attention and listen to the material. So one solution to overcome this problem is to apply the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by geoboard media. The purpose of this study was to determine the significant influence of the use of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning approach assisted by geoboard media on students' mathematical problem solving abilities on the perimeter and area of square and rectangular materials. The research method used is a pre-experimental method with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample in this study was 29 grade IV students of Wado State Elementary School. The data collection technique used in this study is a test technique. The instrument used is a written test in the form of description questions. The data analysis technique used in this study consists of data normality test through Lilliefors test and t test. Based on the results of  the t test with the calculation results tcount = 5.350 and ttable  = 2.048 with the test criteria if tcount < tcount then H₀ is accepted. Which means tcount is greater than ttable and is outside the reception area H₀ then H₀ is rejected and H₀ is accepted. So it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of the Realistic Mathematic Education (RME) learning approach assisted by geoboard media on students' mathematical problem solving abilities on the perimeter and area of square and rectangular materials. Thus, the use of  the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach assisted by geoboard media can be used as an alternative approach assisted by mathematics learning media, especially on the perimeter and area of square and rectangular materials.
