Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability to understand mathematical concepts. Lack of understanding ability, could be caused by learning that tends to be teacher-centered and the lack of supporting the use of concrete objects such as learning media. One way that is expected to improve the ability to understand mathematical concepts is to collaborate with the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model with the Crossword Puzzle (TTS) card media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of learning the TGT model assisted by TTS card media on the ability to understand mathematical concepts in elementary schools. The method used in this study was pre-experimental in the form of one group pretest-posttest design. The instrument used is a test of the ability to understand mathematical concepts (pre-test and post-test). The population in this study was all fourth grade students of SD Negeri Ciakar, Pamulihan District, Sumedang Regency, in the 2021/2022 academic year, totaling 23. The sample used was a total sample. The test in this study uses the Lilliefors test to determine whether the data is normally distributed or not and the z test to test the hypothesis in a one-treatment study that uses a percentage and normalized gain test to determine the magnitude of the increase before and after learning. Based on the results of data processing using the z test, the value of  = 1.77 and  = 2.33 is obtained. This means that   =1.77 is in the interval (-2.33 to 2.33) so that  is accepted, meaning that the use of the TGT model assisted by TTS card media is effective on the ability to understand mathematical concepts in Roman number material for class IV in Ciakar State. the academic year 2021/2022 and the N-gain results obtained 0.70 with an interpretation of high improvement because it is included in the (0.70 g 1.00) interval.
