Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has very rich diversity. Starting from different tribes, customs, languages, religions, arts, ethnicities, races. In responding to this, of course it is a challenge for the Indonesian people to continue to unite despite their differences to achieve one common goal without any detrimental conflict. One effort is through education. Where in the context of national development, education exists to be a vehicle for unifying the nation to equalize opportunities and develop one's potential. Education is expected to strengthen national unity in the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) which provides equal opportunities for all its citizens to participate in developing the country with their respective potential optimally. One of the optimal applications is carried out in basic education because people are accustomed to applying the value of tolerance from an early age. The purpose of writing this article is to provide information about people, diversity and equality in basic education. This writing method uses literature studies taken from various national and international articles. Based on the study that has been presented, the concept of diversity and equality in basic education is realized through multicultural education which emphasizes and instills values ​​in students towards the process of cultivating a way of life that is mutually respectful, sincere and tolerant of the cultural diversity of this pluralistic society.
