The aplplication of conceptual understanding skills is one of the abilities that must be mastered by every student. Understanding concepts in mathematics lessons has the main goal where students are able to add up basic math sums in a simple and real way or easily understood in everyday life for elementary school students, especially in low grade students. This research itself is motivated by the low ability to understand the concept of addition in basic mathematics in grade I elementary school students. One effort that can be done to overcome this is to use appropriate learning media such as using that Project Based Learning model. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method so that research can explain how the efforts made by teachers in improving the quality of teaching and learning. The subjects in the research conducted were students in grade 1, totaling 20 students consisting of 13 famale students and 7 male students. The results of the researchs show that the Project Based learning model that has been implemented shows its success because it is felt to be effective in understanding concepts in addition material, especially in grade 1 elementary school students.
