ANALYSIS OF EMPATHY, MINDFULNESS, COMPASSION, AND CRITICAL INQUIRY (EMC2) ELEMENTS IN THE RECOMMENDATION BOOK FOR CLASS VIII SMP I AM LIMITED BUT WITHOUT LIMITS BY JOKO SULISTYA
Abstract
This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of student recommendation books in one of the 8th-grade Indonesian recommendation books entitled ‘Aku Terbatas Tapi Tanpa Batas’. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection was conducted using a note-taking technique. The study began with observing, identifying, classifying, analyzing, and describing the integration of the elements of empathy, mindfulness, compassion, and critical inquiry in the grade VIII Indonesian language textbook. The analysis revealed that empathy was the most frequently observed element, with 15 occurrences or 31.25% of the total findings. Mindfulness was found 12 times, accounting for 25% of the total findings. Compassion appeared 11 times, or 22.92% of the total findings. Critical inquiry was observed 10 times, making up 20.83% of the total findings. The results of this study can serve as alternative teaching materials for Persuasive Texts in Indonesian language instruction at the junior high school level. Overall, this research indicates that the student-recommended books for the grade VIII Indonesian language textbook have successfully integrated the EMC² elements fairly well, though there is variation in the prominence of each element.
