Abstract

The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method and the data collection technique in this study is a documentary study. The data analysis technique used in this research is in the form of discourse analysis because it aims to analyze discourses or communication between people in a certain social context. Politeness is a very important aspect to shape one's character and attitude, especially in the scope of education. The interaction of students with teachers in learning is a two-way reciprocal relationship that influences each other so that there is a reaction from both parties. Therefore, in interacting, it is necessary to instill politeness as language ethics so as not to create a bad impression. Language politeness in using social media is also very important, one example of social media that is often used is WhatsApp.

The objectives of this study are as follows: 1) describe the maxims of language politeness found in the interaction of students and teachers on WhatsApp media at SMK Informatics Sumedang in the academic year 2021/2022; and 2) describe the language politeness of students at the Sumedang Informatics Vocational School in the 2021/2022 academic year seen from the indications of each language politeness maxim. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method and the data collection technique in this study is a documentary study. The data analysis technique used in this research is discourse analysis.
