In the process of making essays, it is not uncommon for students to make language errors, some of which are caused by a lack of knowledge about Indonesian language rules or norms, although among them there are also errors caused by writing errors. Therefore, it is necessary to have an analysis of the use of spelling errors in students' essays to determine the appropriate and appropriate teaching method. The purpose of the research that the author conducted was to describe how spelling errors and their frequency were in narrative essays written by seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Cimalaka in the 2021/2022 academic year. In this study, the author uses a qualitative descriptive analysis method to describe the use of spelling errors and their frequency in the essays of class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cimalaka in the 2021/2022 academic year. From the results of this study, the author can conclude that the most frequent use of spelling errors appears in the essays of class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cimalaka in the 2021/2022 academic year, namely the use of capital letters, where the frequency of deviations in capital letter writing is 52 sentences from 312 sentences so the percentage is 52/ 312 x 100% = 16.66%, while the frequency of deviations from writing commas is 12 sentences from 312 sentences, so the percentage is 12/312 x 100% = 3.84%. Thus, spelling errors in the compositions of class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Cimalaka for the academic year 2021/2022 are in the low category, namely 20.51% which is in the percentage interval of deviation rates at 0% to 20% which is very low.
